The Formation of The RAF The Royal Air Force was Founded in 1918, formally the Royal Flying Corps, many Cavalry Soldiers transferred to the Flying Corps during the early years of WW1 - following the redundancy of the cavalry due to motor vehicles.

Research at the Public Record Office, Kew :

Medal Index Cards will show the regimental details of personnel who transferred to the RAF.

Documents in AIR 76 give details of Date of Birth, Address and units that were served in. These can be supplemented by Operational Record Books (AIR 1 and AIR 27)

Finding Personnel in RAF
Searches I charge £15.00 (sterling) an hour. For a 2 hour RAF search the cost would be £30.00 plus coping and postage. If you wish for a military search (medal index card, medal rolls, War diaries, this would involve a further 2 hour search.
