There are a number of Ecuadorian items listed as "reported but unconfirmed"
in the standard catalogs, and other items that are listed without that
designation but whose existence is still doubtful. This page attempts to
compile a list of such items and also to provide the collecting community
with the chance to confirm if they actually do exist.

Coins
1/2 Décimo 1893 TF "G.1:250" variety: Dale Seppa's 1973 book
lists two different varieties of the 1893 1/2 Décimo 1893 TF from
Lima, distinguished by the format of the gram inscription on the reverse
("G.1.250" vs. "G.1:250"). However, all coins I have examined myself have
been the G.1.250 variety, and Charles Helfand's research so far has been
unable to establish the existence of the other variety. I bought one of
these coins from Seppa himself in his last auction before he retired; he
had it labeled "G.1.250 which maybe all are that way". If you have or have
seen one of the G.1:250 variety, be sure to report its existence!
1919 5 Centavos 4 berry loose variety: Dale Seppa's 1973 book lists
and pictures three different varieties of the 1919 5 centavos coin, based
on the number and position of the berries directly to the left of the C
in Centavos on the back: 3 berries (most common) and two less common varieties
with 4 berries tight or loose. The Standard Catalog has also picked up
on these three varieties. However, recently a question has arisen as to
whether there are really two different four-berry types, or just one. All
4-berry coins that I have examined personally appear to be the "tight"
variety, and Charles Helfand's preliminary research has been unable to
confirm the existence of the "loose" variety". Letort also does not mention
this variety.
Below I am reproducing the original photo of the three different types
from Seppa's book (two scans, normal and sharpened). If you have or have
seen a coin that is clearly the four berry loose variety (Seppa's EC #133)
be sure to report its existence!
1974 1 Sucre ship without smoke, eagle with broad wings: The Krause
catalog lists two different varieties of the 1974 1 sucre coin: KM 78b
(ship without smoke, eagle with broad wings) and KM 83 (ship with smoke,
eagle with narrow wings). During my last trip to Ecuador I examined bagfuls
of sucres without finding a single KM 78b one from 1974; all 1974 sucres
I examined were type KM 83. Based on my experience I strongly suspect that
the only 1974 sucre is the KM 83 one, and Charles Helfand's preliminary
research has also not turned up any evidence in favor of the existence
of the KM 78b coin. If you have or have seen a 1974 sucre that definitely
is type 78b (ship without smoke, eagle with broad wings) be sure to report
it!

S172: The Standard catalog of World Paper Money (Vol. 1 Specialized
issues, 1994-95 edition) says that the Banco International unissued remainders
are available in series B/A and G/A. I have F/A and G/A in my collection
but have never seen a B/A. I assume that the B/A was a typo for F/A. Does
anyone out there actually have a B/A?
