Letter to the editor:

Like Chadron, Peru State College has long been known for producing great

teachers. Thousands of them, through the years, have taught in Nebraska

communities. Some Peru grad may have taught your children or your

grandchildren.

Peru State College is the epitome of what proponents of small schools

believe in and it does need your support. You know, if they can

eliminate Peru, or change it, because of a short-sighted, bottom line

mentality, they could do it to others as well. Please write to the Peru

State Foundation, Peru, NE 68421, to see how you can help, or contact

your state senator to show your support. The Campus of A Thousand Oaks

needs you.

Butte Reservoir and sign in will be between 7 and 8am with a shotgun

start at 8. There will be cash payouts for the top 3 places and various

door prizes given along with a prize for largest pike and largest perch.

There will even be some concessions available. Rumor has it that you can

save $5 by registering before January 27th. For more information people

Talk about something to talk about - how about this?....

For many years I have wondered how Dawes County gets away without being

"Handicapped Accessable?" If I was in a wheelchair it would be!! How

in the world can they get by with it? Only the County Court in the

basement can be reached without lots and lots of steps. Why is that?

When I asked some employees there I was told two things:

1) All services are offered on the first floor (basement) for those

who can't get to the other officers upstairs.

2) The cost would be way to high to even consider.

Answer?...how about district court? A criminal in a wheel chair can't

stand trial here? How about a divorce? Come on! Get serious! Why

should cost have anything to do with the violation of Federal

Handicapped Accessible Laws. The college had to comply a few years ago -

so why not Dawes County?

Just thought I throw it out for some discussion. I have two good legs

but what about those few unfortunate citizens who don't?
