Recently you posted an email from Blake who was disappointed in your story about a policeman throwing sunflower seeds out his police car window. In fact, blake wrote "I don't belive I have ever heard of disposing of sunflower seeds on the ground as an act of wrong-doing, much less a crime." I disagree with Blakes judgement for several reasons: 1. Just because sunflower seeds are biodegradable, it doesn't make it right to litter. If everybody threw biodegradable items onto the streets and sidewalks, think of what a mess it would be!
2. Since police officers are supposed to uphold the same laws we live by and be a model for citizens to follow, they really shouldn't litter, especially while on duty! out a police car window sets a bad example.

I know that you are probably getting sick of hearing about the supposed police litter, but I have to say this. To the person that took the time to follow the car, take pictures and report it, but not leave his/her name, is a coward in my eyes. A normal, rational person would not have gone to great lengths to "catch a cop" doing something wrong. Aren't cops human, and aren't they allowed to make misjudgments once and a while? The answer is obviously yes. The "reporter" of this incident most likely was on a revenge mission for something he/she got in trouble for but the cops. Anyway, that is my response. Thank you,

Susan, Please conspicuously post this message on your site.
My name is Blake Veath. I am a sophomore at Tulane University in New Orleans. I am writing to you about the recent "expose" of the littering cops. I am disappointed that you wrote about the officer without stopping to see what it was he was actually throwing out. I don't believe I have ever heard of disposing of sunflower seeds on the ground as an act of wrong-doing much less a crime. I believe that any officer of the law deserves a little due process, also. Please, next time you have enough time to follow, photograph, scan, distribute and generally misrepresent someone, I would appreciate it if you would take a minute and investigate like any good reporter usually does.
Thank You For Your Time,
Blake Veath bveath@mailhost.tcs.tulane.edu Original "police litter" story is below. |

After one hour service and scanning I email it to you as a jpg. Every 5 to 10 seconds as I followed from WallMart to downtown the driver would drop wrappers or shells or something out of the window. He must have been eating something. Pretty tacky don't you think? My camera just happened to be in the car and as we were stopped at the light I got a couple of shots. This one shows his hand coming out the window again. If you use this please don't mention my name. Don't need a ticket over the deal......Thanks Content-Type: multipart/appledouble; boundary="----------ad71D18136EBE"; name="police litter #2" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline; filename="police litter #2" Attachment converted: Hard Disk:police litter #2 (JPEG/8BIM) (0002F089)
