Intercambio: habitualmente no hago intercambios. Les recomiendo
que le escriban a la dirección de
abajo (Tribal War). La unica manera en la cual yo aceptaría
hacer
intercambios es:
1. Si la banda es política* y canta acerca de temas politicos,
personales y/o topicos sociales.
Y...
2. hacen las cosas ellos mismos y no se apoyan en distribuidores que
tienen culaquier vínculo con
corporaciones, no tienen intenciones de que lo que hacen ahora
(de manera independiente) es
solamente un paso a “cosas mas grandes” como firmar un contrato
de distribucion o un contrato
con una casa disquera comercial. Y ...
3. Si eres una banda que no es de los EEUU que no tratan de sonar como
si lo fueran y no
idolatran cuanta basura sale de este pais. Y ...
4. la banda canta en el idioma que es más comodo para
expresarse y no en el lenguaje que
les ayudará a vender más o que los hará
mas populares. A mí me disgustan la mayoría de
bandas que cantan en inglés aún cuando vienen de
paises de donde el inglés no es el idioma
principal. He escuchado todas las excusas y no creo que ninguna
sea válida (usen traducciones
para poder comunicarse con otras personas!!!) Y ...
5. Ustedes entienden lo que estoy tratando de decir y no creen
que soy un pendejo irreverente
pero son concientes de lo que estamos tratando de hacer. Si entienden
todo esto talvez estare
dispuesto a intercambiar por tus discos. Envíeme un promo
con letras (y traducciones al inglés o
español si es necesario)
*bueno, lo verraco es definir lo que es político. No me refiero
a pertenecer a un partido ni mucho
menos. Mi respuesta es un poco arbitraria. Primero no pienso
que porque una banda canta
acerca de temas politicos esto quiere decir que son politicos.
Primero miro como manejan sus
“negocios” como banda: tienen su propia casa disquera (ideal!)
o son parte de una casa
independiente; quien distribuye sus discos? gente independiente
y alternativa que son concientes o
distribuidores que tienen lazos con corporaciones o posan de
ser realmente independientes cuando
no lo son? Les importa donde tocan (lugares donde permitan personas
de cualquier edad, que
tan caro y acequible es). Aunque no me importa de manera personal
si la gente envuelta ganan
dinero de sus banda/distribuidora, tambien creo que la gente
está más dispuesta a comprometer lo
que hacen mas si es así y esto es algo más a lo
que miro. Si la banda canta acerca de tópicos
interesantes y es algo que saben y conocen y no algo que cantan
para aparentar que saben de lo
que hablan y que los hace ver bien. Esto es dificil de saber
pero atravez de cartas y de conversar
con la gente uno se va dando cuenta que tal son y como piensan.
Las cosas a las que me inclino son
muchas y no estan limitadas a estrechos conceptos politicos.
No me importa mucho los
diferentes estilos de música todos son más o menos
interesantes (HC, punk, ska, oi, metal,
experimental, salsa, etc) Y no me interesa que tipo de gente
forma las bandas (mujeres,
hombres, razas, colores, skines, punks, etc) Me inclino fuertemente
hacia bandas cuyos miembros
están envueltos en otras cosas fuera de las bandas como en las
luchas por los derechos de las
mujeres, homosexuales, anti-racismo, etc. Simplemente estoy tratando
de hacer algo de
sentido de un mundo que esta hecho una porqueria. Las prioridades
que esta sociedad
tiene estan muy lejanas de la idea de que existan personas que
trabajen juntas hacia un cambio y
de individuos que luchan por los derechos propio y de otros.
Vivimos un mundo donde países son
invadidos sin ninguna oposición, sin ninguna protesta.
Las grandes corporaciones sistematicamente harán lo que sea para
crear ganancias y tienen la necesidad de controlarlo todo. Su necesidad
de tener sus manos metidos en todo lo que existe me enferma. Desde bandas,
casas disqueras, alimentos, arte, medios de comunicación, ropa,
etc. Es decir todo lo que producimos, es nuestro y lo que necesitamos para
sobrevivir y ser humanos esta siendo absorbido por corporaciones. Nosotros
debemos decir basta ya! en alguna parte. Es hora de tomar control de nuestras
vidas. Es por esto que hago las cosas de la manera que las hago. Esta música,
estos discos son independientes y mientras las corporaciones tratan de
absorberlo todo debemos hacer lo minimo para retomarlo. Yo sé que
esto es solo musica pero el mundo punk por lo menos tiene una estructura
que permite la
existencia más o menos independiente. Debemos hacer uso de ella
y nutrirla. De aqui lo podemos
continuar con cooperativas de consumo, adquiriendo articulos que necesitemos
(y
deseamos) de productores independientes (alimentos, etc). Si
alguien está en desacuerdo con esto, no hay problema pero no pierdas
tu tiempo y el nuestro con esfuerzos para atacar: a nosotros y a la gente
que nos colabora. Cojan oficio!!(carajo!)

The only way I could think of doing trades is:
1. you are a political* band who sings about political, personal, social
issues. And ...
2. you do it yourself and don't rely on distributors that have any
links to corporations. You don't
intend to have this as you step on to 'bigger things' like signing
a distro deal or signing to a label. And...
3. If you are a band from ouside the US that you donot try to sound
like you are from around here or worship every piece of crap
that comes out of this country. And ...
4. you sing in the language you feel most confortable expressing yourselves
and not what you think will sell more or what you think will make you more
popular. I dislike when bands from countries where English is not the main
language make excuses as to why they HAVE to sing in English. I have heard
all the excuses and don't like any of them. And ..
5. You understand why I am saying all this and don't think I am the
biggest jerk because I want to do things this way.
If you understand all this then I'll consider trading with you.
Send a sample with lyrics and
translation to English or Spanish (if needed) ok?
* Ok how to define a political band? this is a difficult question and one that I have a personal and arbitrary answer to. First I don't think that just because a band sings about political issues that makes them a political band. First I look at how they run their 'business'. Whether they run their own label (best) or belong to an independent label. Who distributes their stuff, independents and concious individuals? or do they go through distributor that pose as independents but have links to corporations. Do they care about where to play (all ages, how expensive, etc) I don't really care if they make a living off their band\label but I think people are willing to compromise more if they do, so I also look at this. Whether they sing about interesting topics and know and relate to them and not just because singing about something makes them look cool. Usually this is hard to tell but after trading letters, talking to them etc you can tell where they stand on many issues and how much really they know. Topics I am into include many and are not limited to narrow political issues. I don't care much about music styles I like just about everything that is out there, grind core, ska, oi, punk, metal etc. I dont really care what the band members are (female, male, skinheads, black, white, latino, punks etc) I am strongly inclined to favor bands whose members are involved in other stuff besides just the band like women' s rights, anti-racism actions etc. Above all I am trying to make sense of a fucked up world and a screwed-up scene. Society's priorities these days seem far from an idea where people work together towards change and there is a lack of individuals standing up for their own and other's rights. A world where countries get invaded without much opposition. Where human rights get violated constantly. The way corporations systematically will do anything to bring profits up and how the have the need to control, manipulate and have a stake in anything and everything that goes on sickens me. Anything from bands to food, art, the media, clothing etc is being coopted by these corporations. At the same time we are told that we need to consume their products. We must take a stand somewhere and start taking our music, food, clothes, housing, everything in general that we produce and its ours and necesary to survive and be humans. It is time to start taking control back of our lives. This is why I am doing things the way I do. This music, these records are independent and while corporations try to take over our world we must do at least the minimun to take it back. I know this is just music but since the punk kingdom already has a structure that allows for existence in a somewhat more alternative way I just want to make use of it and encourage it. If you disagree that is cool with me but don't waste your time and efforts putting us and the people who believe in it down. Get a life of your own OK?
