Koryu Bugei
There are still people in the world who publicly degrade the tradition of Ninpo, and others who doubt the authenticity of what we practice today. As it has been stated elsewhere, please do not consider the Bujinkan Dojo as the 'ninja school'. Our style is called Budo Taijutsu, and incorporates many kinds of koryu bugei- warrior traditions that originate before the 16th century. These ryuha are well-documented and linked historically to some of the most well-respected ryuha in Japan. In reality, the 'ninjutsu' systems of the Bujinkan (Togakure, Gyokushin and Kumogakure Ryu) supply very little of the 'bujutsu', or combative arts, that we practice. Yet, as you are about to discover, the distinction is not always so black and white.
Studying systems of both bushido and ninpo in one school offers a unique perspective. It allows us in the Bujinkan to compare, contrast and balance both philosophies.
