Foligno in Rete

THE PLAIN OF FOLIGNO HAS ALWAYS WELCOMED MULTITUDES OF TRAVELLERS

A wayfarer making his or her way from the north towards Rome, quided by the of cathedrals or abbeys, would gladly tarry in the wide valley after the harduous trek through the mountains. Coming out suiddenly from the confined, narrow mountain trails, the valley appeared as an invitation to rest and refresr oneself before, continuing the journey. The plain of Foligno, for centuries a natural crossroad has welcomed multitudes of pilgrims, merchants end wayfarers who have passed through or stopped here on their way to other destinations.
And so, with the constant flow of travellers, this crossroods has become a flourishing centre of trade,

end has ochieved an independence and an authhentic spirituality, such that a magnificent cathedral was built over the tomb of its martyr, Feliciano. The sun and the stars at the peak of the portal meet with two arches of the cornice, in linear symmetry, as symbols of the passing of the time. They look to the past and to the future, seeing all who come and go.With their knowing, steady gaze, they keep wotch over and protect the passing pilgrims, who face all kinds of difficulties and dangers in the name of a faith which is put to trial daily. This is the life we all face; but we can be sure that gaze is watching over us.
