Two Toning a Flat Surface
.
For this example, I am using a piece of  scrap wood that I found laying around.
This technique can be used on any piece of wood including furniture!

The first thing you want to do is to draw a line where ever desired with a pencil and a ruler.

Then stain one side with a water based stain.(The brush doesn't have to be as  small as illustrated, but a smaller brush
 will be needed later).

Stain the other side. Let sit for a minute or 2, and wipe off excess stain with a paper towel.

With an exacto knife, or carving knife, cut a V shape down the line you drew.

Use a small piece of folded sand paper to smooth out your V-shape groove.

Once you're finished sanding, it's time for your final coat of water based stain.

With a small paint brush, stain the appropriate stain colors on each side of  your V-shape.

Wait a minute or two, and wipe off excess stain with a paper towel.
