You do not know what cold is until you've hit Forty
Below Zero!! Here are some fun things to do when it's that cold....or
colder:
Take a hot cup of coffee outside and throw it into
the air. None of it will hit the ground! No, it does NOT freeze.
It turns into a cloud of ice fog. The temperature difference is so
great the water molecules explode into their smallest components.
If you do it under a street light it looks really cool.
Take some Mercury (the metal) and put it in a little
bowl. It turns into a solid, looks just like a coin. Because
it conducts heat so rapidly it quickly melts when you bring it back inside.
Put some light weight motor oil like 5W-30 and pour
it into a small bowl. (NOT your wife's Tupperware.) Once outside
a while it will turn into a very thick gel. This is why we plug our
cars in to headbolt outlets in the winter. Oil in this condition
does very little to protect your engine.
Stay inside and catch cabin fever. After a few weeks, the Shining
starts to look like a pretty tame movie.
