Gamma Ray Bursts

GRB 000214 ``Valentine's Day Burst'' was observed with the Narrow Field Instruments (NFI) on board BeppoSAX from Feb. 14.5479 to 15.0793 UT
The potential Optical Transient reported by Fynbo et al. (GCN #570) is clearly detected. Based on the assumption that the B-R colour index of the star USNO 125_07686794 is representative for its spectral type, a preliminary estimate of the K'-band magnitude of the potential afterglow of 17.4 was derived.

As observed by Ulysses, this burst had a 25-100 keV fluence of ~10^-6 erg/cm^2 and a T90 duration of ~20 s.  We have triangulated this burst to an ~60 sq. arcmin. error box.
This point-like object, with the same PSF than other field stars, is not detected in the rest of BOOTES-1 images taken during the night. The position of this optical transient is AR(2000) = 13h50m07.9s, Dec(2000) =+31 16 49  (+/- 3").
