10,000,000,000 A.D.
10 billion years from now: Earth has survived! It
happened to escape the swelling sun, but it will never be the same again.
The sun has collapsed into a tiny, dense White Dwarf, not larger than an
planet, leaving the burnt out hulk of a dead world. The whole solar system
is left in eternal cold and a dim, ghostly light, since the dead sun still
shines from its own heat. It will take another 100 billion years
until the White Dwarf slowly fades away to a cold, solid body of mostly
carbon and iron - a Black Dwarf. But as the sun enters its eternal age
of crystal, other stars in the Galaxy are still born, and some of them
have precious planets suitable for life...
