10,000,000,000 A.D.
10 billion years from now: Earth has survived! It happened to escape the swelling sun, but it will never be the same again. The sun has collapsed into a tiny, dense White Dwarf, not larger than an planet, leaving the burnt out hulk of a dead world. The whole solar system is left in eternal cold and a dim, ghostly light, since the dead sun still shines from its own heat. It will take another 100 billion years until the White Dwarf slowly fades away to a cold, solid body of mostly carbon and iron - a Black Dwarf. But as the sun enters its eternal age of crystal, other stars in the Galaxy are still born, and some of them have precious planets suitable for life... (Do you still recall the first image??) |
