1.5 billion years in the future: The sun is now 37% brighter than today. This is enough to boil away the oceans completely. As all CO2 is released from the rocks, the pressure of the atmosphere rises to crushing 60 bar, heating the planet to above 200°C. The remaining water vapour is destroyed by the intense UV radiation. Even the hardiest organisms cannot survive any longer. Earth, the once blue planet, is dead now. |
