"Great Guano Rush." The late and highly acclaimed author Jimmy Skaggs from Kansas wrote this great book. It's chapters include: "Supply, demand, price and politics"; "The entrepreneur & Daniel Webster"; Turtles & birds"; "Seward's outhouse"; 'Pacific appurtenances"; "Caribbean appurtenances"; "Peddling it: the aroma of profit"; "Shoveling it"; "Navassa Island"; "Guano happens". An entire chapte is dedicated to Navassa and it's amazing history. This book is a must for anyone who lives history or wants to find out more about the troubles of the black man. Price: $25.00 |
"Shipwrecks of Great Abaco, Bahamas". This is my book. It is small but packed full of shipwreck facts and lists 115 wrecks in the Abacos beginning in 1597 up until early 1800's. I chose to write this book because I was there and experienced the wonderful tropical islands and their history and it's people. Stretching out for nearly 100 miles, the Abacos contain the world's second largest tropical reef. Islands with exotic names like "No Name Cay", "Spanish Cay" and "Green Turtle Cay" have a certain charm found no where else in the world. The book lists wrecks by date of sinking and name and cargo. Inside it's pages I detail how to find and salvage a shipwreck. I discuss issues such as getting a permit and cleaning the goods. There are lots of photos including one of the famous treasure hunter, Mel Fisher from Key West. Price $15.00 |
